  • B. S. Athletic Training Houston Baptist University, 1978
  • Certified Effective Cycling Instructor
    League of American Bicyclists, 2001
  • Certified Expert (Level 2) Coach
    USA Cycling, 2004

In 1974 Bikin Mike discovered physical fitness. His life would never be the same.

One year later, Keel began designing personal fitness programs for guests and members of Ray & Clare Stern’s Health Center. As the first co-educational health club in the southwest, this facility provided the perfect place for Keel to apply his developing knowledge of physical fitness. Fueled in part by information he learned at the Institute for Aerobics Research (founded by Dr. Kenneth Cooper), Keel made sure that all his clients had an aerobic portion within their exercise program. Now, some four decades later, he continues to pass on his lifetime of experience training cyclists of every level, teaching fitness classes and designing personal fitness programs.

An avid recreational cyclist and bicycle commuter, Bikin Mike has logged more than 150,000 miles since 1974. A regular face at North Texas bicycle events since 1987, he began providing 2-day weekend bicycle ‘destination’ tours in 1991. He has also directed several large bicycle events as fund-raisers for area charities. He was named “Fitness Personality of the Year” in 1990 by readers of Sports Pulse Magazine.

In 2000, Keel teamed up with local bike shop owner Rick Gurney to open the Bikin’ Blast Training Center at Plano Cycling & Fitness. The Training Center provides an excellent location for Keel to use as a home base. During the 5 month “off season” he concentrates on delivering a conditioning program for area cyclists through a schedule of 8 indoor cycling classes each week. The rest of the year is spent leading group rides to beautiful cycling destinations, producing cycling events in the North Texas area and other parts of the United States. He still manages to ride some 5,000 miles annually while working with clients to get more fun and fitness out of their time in the saddle.

Welcome and hello everybody. My name is Mike, I work and I play and I ride a bike! For nearly four decades I have been devoted to building a healthier community through the promotion of cycling as the ultimate hobby and recreational pastime. LEARN – TRAIN – RIDE – A fitness educator since 1974, I began coaching cyclists in 1987 and opened our Training Center in 2000. I love everything about cycling, from the feelings I get during a great indoor workout or outdoor ride, to the people I train and meet while riding in rallies and rides throughout North Texas and other parts of the United States.
